First Kit Harington shaves his beloved beard and now Jason Momoa? What in the fresh Game of Thrones hell is going on?! Isn’t ending the series emotionally traumatic enough? Way to add insult to injury, guys. OK … now that we’re done being dramatic, let’s discuss.

To be fair, the hunky Hawaiian actor, 39, hasn’t actually been on Game of Thrones since his character died in season 1, episode 10. Even so, Drogo will forever be a fan favorite. Sure, he started out as a literal barbarian, but his marriage to Daenerys Targaryen quickly became one of the show’s most beloved romances … minus a few, er, graphic scenes.

As upset as fans of Jason are, the HBO alum has a very good reason for removing his sexy scruff. “Goodbye Drogo, Aquaman, Declan, Baba,” Jason began his caption on Instagram announcing his new YouTube episode. “I’m shaving this beast off. It’s time to make a change. A change for the better … for my kids, your kids, the world,” he continued.

“Let’s make a positive change for the health of our planet. Let’s clean up our oceans [and] our land. Join me on this journey. Let’s make the switch to infinitely recyclable aluminum. Water in cans, not plastic,” he concluded, along with a few powerful hashtags like “change is coming,” “choose cans” and “recycle.”

Sigh. We suppose that shaving your beard to bring awareness to the rapidly deteriorating environment is a noble cause. Plus, let’s be real … he’s still super handsome without it. “OMG. He chopped his beard off?! Still a very fine specimen of man, though!” one user commented. “I love him double now,” added another.

In conclusion: We’re sad to say goodbye to Khal Drogo forever, pleased that an A-lister like Jason cares about planet Earth and ecstatic that beards grow back. That last bit is specifically directed at Kit, though. Sorry, man.
