Scarlett wed fellow actor Ryan on September 27, 2008, in his native British Columbia, after a year of quietly dating. The pair were notoriously guarded about their marriage, going out of their way to never be photographed together. They also refused to speak about each other in interviews. Scarlett and Ryan split in 2010 and divorced the following year.

Ryan went on to marry actress Blake Lively on September 9, 2012, a year after his divorce from Scarlett. Today, they’re still happily wed with three young daughters. Unlike his ultra-private marriage to Scarlett, Ryan and Blake love posing together on red carpets and sharing goofy photos with each other on Instagram.

In April 2023, Scarlett made a rare comment about her former spouse in an interview on Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Goop” podcast, noting that they “weren’t married very long” but adding, “He’s a good guy.”

In 2011 amid her divorce from Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett embarked on a short but hot romance with much older actor and activist, Sean Penn. They made their debut as a couple when the two attended actress Reese Witherspoon’s March 2011 wedding to Jim Toth.

A few months later, the politically active pair dressed to the nines for the White House Correspondents Dinner in May. Eyewitnesses claimed the two passionately made out as dinner was served, and the pair were in the company of President Barack Obama. Their fleeting romance ended a month later, as Sean reportedly wasn’t interested in a serious relationship.

Nate Naylor

Scarlett took a break from dating actors for a one-year romance with New York City advertising executive Nate Naylor. The two began seeing each other after meeting through mutual friends in October 2011. Scarlett revealed to Vogue in April 2012 what it was like dating someone who wasn’t famous. “It’s totally bizarre,” she said. “It’s an adjustment — I mean, it’s got to be an adjustment for him way more than it was for me at 19. But he’s remarkably good about it.” Their relationship wasn’t meant to be, as the pair broke up in October 2012.

Romain Dauriac

Scarlett must have enjoyed getting a taste of dating a non-celebrity because her next romance would be with someone who was also not in the spotlight. She began dating French journalist Romain Dauriac in early 2013. By September of that year, the couple was already engaged! The pair welcomed a daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac, on August 30, 2014. They went on to wed shortly thereafter, in a private ceremony in Montana on October 1 of that year.

Ultimately, the pair came from two separate worlds, as Romain frequently looked deeply uncomfortable being photographed with Scarlett at Hollywood events. His life in Paris wasn’t compatible with Scarlett’s home base of New York City, and the pair divorced in 2017.

Colin Jost

Scarlett got to know her future husband when he was a writer on Saturday Night Live, and she hosted the show in 2006 and 2010. But the actress was in relationships with other men on both occasions. Her fifth hosting gig in March 2017 wasn’t a charm either, as days before, she filed for divorce from Romain Dauriac. It took an appearance on the show’s May 2017 finale playing Ivanka Trump for Scarlett and Colin to officially begin their romance. They were spotted making out at at a SNL season finale afterparty.

The couple spent the Fourth of July weekend together in the Hamptons, and that September, Colin confirmed their relationship at the 2017 Emmy Awards. “She’s wonderful,” he told Entertainment Tonight about Scarlett, adding, “She’s working, so otherwise, she’d be here.” He continued, “She’s pretty cool … it’s hard to have a lot of complaints, she’s pretty awesome. I’m very happy. I feel very lucky.” The couple went public with their romance a few months later, posing together at a November 30 gala at New York’s American Museum of Natural History.

The couple became quite serious, and Scarlett showed off rare PDA by bringing Colin to plenty of red carpet events, while holding his hand and gazing into his eyes. On May 10, 2019, Scarlett’s rep confirmed that the actress and the SNL Weekend Update anchor were engaged. In July 2019, fans got a glimpse of Scarlett’s 11-carat, pear-shaped diamond engagement ring at San Diego Comic-Con.

Scarlett and Colin tied the knot in an intimate New York ceremony in October 2020. It was attended by only close friends and family. The couple revealed the news via the food charity Meals on Wheels America’s website. “Their wedding wish is to help make a difference for vulnerable older adults during this difficult time by supporting @mealsonwheelsamerica,” the wedding announcement read, encouraging fans to donate to the charity.

In 2021, the pair welcomed their first child, a son named Cosmo. Colin took to Instagram on August 18 to announce Scarlett gave birth following a private pregnancy, “OK, OK, we had a baby. His name is Cosmo. We love him very much.” He later revealed on Late Night With Seth Meyers that his mom initially hated the name, until she met several people of Italian descent in her Staten Island, New York, neighborhood who had relatives with the same moniker.
