When it comes to childhood heroes, some people chose to idolize Superman or one of the Teenage Mutant Turtles. However, if you were more of a macabre soul, then Wednesday Addams from the 1991 version of The Addams Family was your girl.

With quotes like, “This is my costume. I’m a homicidal maniac. They look just like everybody else,” and “I’ll clean my room in exchange for your immortal soul,” she was the apathetic, intelligent queen in black we all needed … and still need, to be honest.

Of course, Wednesday is a fictional character, but we’ll forever be thankful to Christina Ricci for bringing her to life all those years ago.

As it happens, Christina, 39, is still very much a part of the Hollywood scene and has gone on to have an incredibly successful career. For starters, shortly after The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, she went on to play Kat in Casper — a.k.a. another Halloween classic that deserves a rewatch every year.

Children’s movies aside, Christina has appeared in major motion pictures like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Sleepy Hollow, Prozac Nation, Monster, Penelope and many more! She also played Lizzie Borden in both a TV movie and TV mini-series.

Considering Lizzie was suspected of murdering her father and stepmother with an ax, we suspect Wednesday Addams would be especially proud of that role. Additionally, if you’re a Gossip Girl fan, you might like to know that Christina is the voice of the audiobooks even though the CW series cast Kristen Bell.

As for Christina’s personal life, she’s been married to James Heerdegen since 2013 after meeting on the set of her film Pan Am. In August 2014, Christina gave birth to the pair’s son, Freddie.

Nowadays, her Instagram is full of fashionable photos, glamorous selfies, and shout-outs to old movies — including The Addams Family. On October 31, 2018, Christina shared a snapshot of herself as Wednesday with the caption, “If we were friends, I would totally have helped you with your costume.”

In conclusion: No matter how many remakes of The Addams Family are made, Christina will always be our Wednesday.
