What happened to the sisters on American Idol? When 17-year-old Taryn Coccia auditioned in front of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, she brought along her big sister Payton Taylor, 20, to play guitar for her. But Taryn also caught the judges' eyes and she was allowed to audition as well, and even though both sisters have very different styles and voices, their individual talents earned them each a golden ticket to Hollywood. But fans won't be seeing Taryn or Payton advance in the competition and they both took to Instagram on Sunday, April 1 to explain why.

"I’m so sorry to disappoint. You won’t be seeing [Payton] and I on [American Idol] tonight," Taryn wrote on Instagram. "Although we received our golden tickets to Hollywood, we decided that we want to drive our own careers in the direction we want."

Taryn explained that while she was disappointed at first, she now feels like it is 100 percent the right decision for her and her sister because they want their fans to see them as who they are — two different, talented artists — and they aren't looking for their 15 minutes of fame.

Taryn's sister Payton also wrote her own message and she echoed her sister's sentiment and she also added that part of the reason why they decided not to continue on the reality show is they don't want to have to compete against each other.

You won't be seeing my sister, @taryncoccia, or I on @americanidol. Both of us received tickets! However, after a lot of thought and prayer, we both declined the invitation to go to #HollywoodWeek. Why? We are sisters on a mission. We are both about to launch our singles respectively and are ready to put the hard work into carving our own paths individually… ALWAYS having each others backs. It's never a competition with us. We are ready to take the leap of faith into our own (extremely different) artistic paths… and we hope you will join us. . . . . . #AmericanIdol #katyperry #lukebryan #lionelrichie #idol #sisters #music #singer #songwriter #nashville #tennessee
