Jonathan Scott Reveals He Was Planning to Adopt as a Single Dad Before Meeting Zooey Deschanel
By any means necessary! Jonathan Scott revealed he was making plans to become a single dad on the Friday, January 10 episode of Tamron Hall. That is, until he met girlfriend Zooey Deschanel.
“I was not in a rush to be in a bad relationship … so I wanted to be with the right person,” he explained. “Otherwise, I was very confident in being a single dad, to raise somebody, because I think I would be a great dad.” The Property Brothers star said he had done all sorts of research into his options for becoming a parent, from adoption to surrogacy, but then, much to his surprise, he found the person he wanted to parent with.
“It was very, very unexpected I think for both of us,” he admitted. “Zooey and I have a very, very great communication style, everything jives with us. It was exciting for me to realize that all of a sudden I’m on this new path with somebody who — I know she’s an amazing mother, she has two beautiful kids. And so I think, for me, all of a sudden I’m like, ‘Wow, I don’t have to go this road alone.’” He also revealed that he’s happy to be a father figure to his ladylove’s children, Elsie Otter, 4, and Charlie Wolf, 3.
But Zooey is so much more to Jonathan than a mom for his future kids; she also showed him how he should expect to be treated. “This is somebody who I absolutely love and adore inside,” he said. “And it’s the first time — I’ve never been in a — cause I’m a romantic guy, I love doing romantic, creative things — it’s the very first time I’ve ever been in a relationship where somebody returns that to me.”
The couple made major strides in the past few months. Jonathan told Tamron that he introduced her to his parents for the first time at his brother’s wedding, and a source told Life & Style exclusively in November that the reality star had been slowly relocating his stuff into the actress’ home. “He’s already moved some of his belongings into Zooey’s place [in L.A.], and they’re talking about buying a love nest and renovating it together,” said the source. We can’t wait to see what’s next for these two!
