If you follow Jordyn Woods on social media, you may have noticed that she loves to stay active. The 22-year-old doesn’t only use working out as a way to stay healthy and in shape, but it’s also a form of therapy for her.

“I think that fitness really kind of saved me and made me the person that I am today through losing my dad and everything that I’ve had to deal with,” she exclusively told Life & Style while promoting her new movie, Sacrifice, which premieres on Thursday, December 19, on BET+. Jordyn lost her dad, John Woods, to cancer in January 2017. That was nearly three years ago, and since then, the model has had her fair shares of up and downs and always looked to exercise to make her feel better.

“Fitness really was my crutch,” she continued. “[Instead of] dealing with therapy and everything, I just went to the gym, and so not only are you working on yourself to be better, but working up those stairs, that just increases your level for happiness and everything else, so I always will tell someone, ‘if you’re upset about something and you don’t really want to talk about it or you don’t know what to do, just get up and go do something to make yourself feel better.'”

Jordyn became so influenced by this healthy coping mechanism that in November, she launched FrstPlace — a fitness brand. “I actually created a fitness platform called FrstPlace that has a series of program that you can do either at home or at the gym, and because I’m traveling all the time, they’re workouts that I do whether I’m at home or if people have work or have kids or whatever and can’t make it to the gym and don’t want to pay for a membership,” she revealed.

The brunette beauty continued, “And then I have a gym program for those who do want to go to the gym but just don’t know what to do. So I created FrstPlace to really show what I do to stay fit and also to build a community of people who maybe are in a place where they don’t know how to get started. It’s like okay here’s the plan for you to do. So that was my whole intention with FrstPlace. You can see the workouts on there.”

It’s safe to say Jordyn is our fitspo!
