Friends Think Pete Davidson Is Using Jokes To ‘Overcompensate’ For The Pain He’s Feeling Over Ariana Grande Split
Is there anything worse than a man who overcompensates for his shortcomings? In the wake of Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson‘s sudden split, the SNL star is seemingly trying to hold on to his “relevancy” as hard as possible. So much so, that he’s even willing to publicly joke about a very private affair. Not cool, Davidson, not cool.
“His friends think he is embarrassed by the breakup and that he has to overcompensate by making jokes about their relationship, because, days before they split, he was saying they would never break up,” one source explained to Entertainment Tonight.
“He’s obviously hurt it didn’t work out but is doing his best to move on. Anyone would be hurt after an engagement was broken off,” the source added. “Pete joked about him and Ariana [when they were together]. So joking about breaking up and their relationship is not new.”
Hmmm, well let’s address that, shall we? Pete’s jokes were actually partially responsible for turning Ari’s fans against him in the first place. Back in October, the 24-year-old was slammed for joking that he switched Ariana’s birth control with Tic Tacs. “I believe in us and all, but I just want to make sure that she can’t go anywhere,” Pete quipped.
Of course, supporters of the singer had some things to say. “Pete Davidson jokes about terrorist attacks, feels bad for a man that groped Ari on live TV, may or may not hide her birth control to trap her, is obsessed with updating us about the stage of her vag, and doesn’t pay rent. Ari, please, baby girl. This is not the one, two, or the three. Run!” one user commented on Twitter at the time.
Sadly, Pete made a number of crude statements at his former-fiancée’s expense throughout the duration of their whirlwind relationship. If anything, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear that’s why she called it quits. In conclusion: We know you’re a comedian, Pete, but find new material.
