It’s been just over a month since Demi Lovato‘s tragic drug overdose, and while the rest of Hollywood has continued to offer their words of love, support, and encouragement to the 26-year-old pop star, her longtime friend and Disney Channel cohort, Selena Gomez, has remained silent — until now.

Speaking with Elle magazine, the “Back To You” singer gave her first public statement regarding Demi’s overdose. “All I’m saying is, I reached out personally. I didn’t do a public thing. I didn’t want to. I… I love her. I’ve known her since I was seven. So… it’s… that’s what I’ll say.”

However brief, her statement was tasteful and mature. That’s a true friend right there! And while Selena remained understandably tight-lipped about her BFF, she did open up about other areas of her life. Most notably, how she feels about turning 26 years old.

We know what you might be thinking: 26 isn’t exactly some big milestone birthday! That said, considering Selena has been in the limelight since appearing on the children’s television series Barney & Friends, it’s safe to say she has a lot more to reflect on than the average mid-20-something.

“It’s peaceful. It’s weird. The moment I turned 26, I felt 26. Right now, I feel very sure of where I am. I don’t feel erratic, or emotionally unstable, or like I can’t handle my emotions like I used to,” Selena revealed. “It’s kind of understanding myself a little more. By all means, I don’t have myself figured out but it feels good,” she concluded.

You go, girl! We’re so happy to see Selena thriving and living her very best life — especially considering her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, has been making headlines all summer with his fiancée, Hailey Baldwin. Keep killing ’em with kindness, Selena… oh, and boatloads success, of course.
