For this homeless man named George, all he wanted this Christmas was to spend it with a family who'd have him.
But he got much more than that.
Days after a Facebook page shared George's plea, the man's sister was shocked when she saw it was her brother — her brother she has not seen in 12 years.
The Humans of Ireland Facebook page — a page where a photographer shares photos and stories of Ireland's people — uploaded George's image, with the following caption:
The photo shows George, who was living in Kinsale, County Cork at the time, sitting on a stone by the water.
Lee Furlong, photographer and owner of the page, said once he posted the shot and quote, he received an outpouring of support from people — many of whom invited George into their homes with open arms.
But one person's response stuck out in particular to Furlong: George’s sister Sheelagh.
She explained she hadn't seen him in more than a decade, and that their mother was sick. All she wanted was to invite him over for Christmas dinner.
Lo and behold, Furlong was able to locate George and give him his sister's information.
"[He] called to tell me that he was returning to the family home next Wednesday. We had a really nice chat, he sounded so upbeat compared to our first meeting," he said.
"He thanked me, wished me a Merry Christmas and hoped that we stay in touch. I returned his well wishes and [said] that I hoped he enjoys Christmas Dinner with his family this year."
It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.
