Robin Thicke had the song of the summer with his hit “Blurred Lines,” but he says that it was Miley Cyrus and her twerking at the MTV VMAs that put him on the map.
“Everybody knows who I am now because I let Miley Cyrus twerk in front of me on the MTV awards,” he says in the new issue of Vanity Fair.Miley Cyrus Covers Up Body In Saturday Night Live Promos
The crooner spoke with the mag one day after he and the former Disney darling made headlines with their raunchy performance.
“They told me [beforehand] that Miley’s going to take her clothes off and dance around and she might bend over…,” he says about the number. “I just said, I don’t care, let’s entertain people.”
Saying that he spent his “whole career playing it safe, being a gentleman,” Robin says he wasn’t even aware of what was going on because he was “onstage singing my ass off.”

When asked if the success has affected his personal life, he shares, “We’ve been married for eight years, and together since we were 16. We’re very lucky to have the greatest friendship; we’re John [Lennon] and Yoko [Ono]—whatever that is—that’s who she is to me. I’ve always put her before everything and will continue to. But, yeah, be careful what you wish for.”
