She Said Yes! ‘Bachelor’ Alum Lauren Bushnell Is Engaged to Country Singer Chris Lane

She’s engaged — again! Bachelor alum Lauren Bushnell is ready to tie the knot with country singer Chris Lane. The musician popped the question on Sunday, June 16, with the couple revealing the happy news on Tuesday, June 18. Chatting with People, they confirmed that it all went down on Father’s Day. Don’t worry, though. Lauren’s dad was totally on board with the plan and more than happy to share his special day.

“I knew she wouldn’t want some elaborate crazy proposal … so I decided to keep it pretty casual,” said Chris, 34, who’d been working on a proposal ideas for Lauren, 29, for a while. “I asked her parents for different places in Portland I could potentially take her to, but after a lot of thought I decided doing it at the family cookout would be the most laid-back setting and that she’d appreciate the simplicity of me proposing to her in her parents’ backyard. … I was initially worried that doing it on Father’s Day might not be the best move, but her dad, Dave, said that it could only add to his Father’s Day and that’s when I decided Sunday, June 16 was the day.”

Once the musician had the go-ahead from his fiancée’s parents, he put his plan in place. Unfortunately, the plan kind of went to s–t — literally. “As I was about to propose … I stepped in fresh dog poop with my bare feet,” the singer admitted. He powered through, though, and eventually got things back on track, proposing with a song he’d written called “Big Plans.” The lyrics included the line, “Right now we’re back in her hometown / and I’m down on one knee,” right as the star kneeled down.

“Even though I felt pretty confident I was going to get the ‘yes,’ I’ve never been that nervous,” Chris revealed. “When I got to the third verse of the song and knew it was time, I pretty much blacked out. The next thing I knew, she said, ‘Yes,’ and the nerves just lifted! It’s an explosion of excitement, pure joy, and love.”

You can listen to the full song in the video and get a glimpse of the proposal for yourself — and it’s pretty emotional. “I lost it. … It was the happiest moment of my life!” confessed Lauren. “Chris is the most thoughtful person. … He clearly put so much time and thought into not only the song, but also making sure everyone I love most was surrounding us in that moment. Holding each other, hearing the song for the first time and then seeing him get down on one knee is a moment I’ll never forget. Watching the video back was almost just as emotional as the proposal itself.”

On social media, the star continued to shower her fiancé with love. “I can’t stop smiling, 😭” she wrote on June 18. “I feel so incredibly blessed that every misstep, mistake and heartache has led me to you. I couldn’t be happier to call you mine, forever. The journey was well worth it. Thank you, Christopher Eric Lane, for softening my heart and making it whole. Never going to stop telling you how much I love you and I will hold onto you forever and ever! Lauren Lane has a nice ring to it. 💍”
