<p><span></span>After <a href="http://dynamic.bauerpublishing.com/mt-search.fcgi?blog_id=2&tag=adele&limit=20&IncludeBlogs=2">Adele</a> announced on Oct. 28 that she had to cancel tour dates to undergo surgery, a troubling rumor claiming that the British songstress has throat cancer swept across the Internet.</p>
The hashtag "#prayforadele" even became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.
But her rep has confirmed to Life & Style that the gossip is mercifully untrue.
"We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal cord," her Sony Music rep, Benny Tarantini, told Life & Style in an official statement. "All reports regarding any other condition are 100 percent false."
Earlier in October, the 23-year-old was forced to cancel her U.S. tour dates to recover from illness and she discovered that her vocal cords had been damaged.
"Guys, I'm heartbroken and worried to tell you that yet again I'm experiencing problems with my voice," she wrote on her website following the announcement. "It's ridiculous I know! I can't believe it myself. I follow all the advice I'm given and stick to regimes, rules and practices to the best of my ability, but it seems to simply not be enough."
But if there's one thing she can be happy about, it's her second album 21 that has become the best selling album of 2011 and is sitting pretty in the No. 1 spot for the 13th week in a row on Billboard's top 200 albums chart.
