For the 16th season of Dancing With the Stars, pro dancer Kym Johnson will be sharing the inside scoop with Life & Style readers — a behind-the-scenes look at the show and the run of her celebrity partner, former General Hospital star Ingo Rademacher. In the sixth week, Kym reveals what it was like being in the bottom three for the first time, how she thinks Selena Gomez would fare on DWTS and why Ingo thinks Sean Lowe is his biggest competition.
I thought that Ingo and I did a really good job with our cha-cha performance last week. Although we landed in the bottom three, I was still very proud. Ingo had a really difficult time in rehearsals, but still managed to make the audience go crazy.
I must admit that it felt a bit off for us to be in the bottom. No one wants to be in that position — however, it was nice being saved first. We weren’t in the bottom two, so that was good to know. It’s definitely given Ingo and I that extra push of motivation to make sure we're not in that position again after tonight’s performance.
Backstage at Dancing With the Stars with Kym Johnson, Week 5: I'm Excited for Maksim Chmerkovskiy's Return
It was sad to see DL Hughley go last week. He was really enjoying his time on the show even though he had it tough with the judges. They were really harsh on him, but he held his head up high. He went out there, danced and he was adorable.
Speaking of adorable, I thought Selena Gomez’s performance was amazing. Everyone loved it! I really like her song, “Come & Get It.” It’s very catchy and it would be so fun to dance to on the show. I actually think Selena would make a great DWTS contestant. Zendaya has been wonderful, so it would be awesome to have another Disney girl.
In the midst of getting ready for tonight’s performance this past week, I also revealed my first ad campaign with PETA to the world. Although posing with no clothes on was a little frightening, I’m so glad I did it. Hopefully I’ve raised awareness and people will understand the importance of choosing cruelty-free products and know that animal testing is absolutely unnecessary. I am very happy with how it turned out and it’s great to be involved in such a great cause.
Now that all of the nerves from revealing those photos are gone, I'm happy to be able to give all my focus to tonight’s performance. We’re dancing to Stevie Wonder songs and Stevie Wonder is actually going to be there. I’m such a huge fan, so I’m super excited!
EXCLUSIVE: Dancing With the Stars' Kym Johnson Talks Going Naked for PETA
We’ve got the tango tonight, which is a great dance for Ingo. It’s strong and masculine — just like he is. Of the other male contestants, Ingo recently said that he thinks Sean Lowe is one of his main competitors. I guess we’ve been switching with Sean a little bit in regards to our scores. All the guys are kind of battling it out because they’re all close in their marks.
I’m so excited that our scores from the judges and our votes from all of you have helped us make it to the halfway point of the season. It’s always a big goal to get to this part of the competition. We can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s great that Ingo and I can now sort of see the finish line. I’m really happy that we’ve made it this far and hopefully we can continue.
Ingo and I have been really working hard, so I truly hope you enjoy our routine tonight. It’s going to be a good one!
