Liberty Ross’ world changed in the summer of 2012.
Just 20 hours before pictures of her director husband, Rupert Sanders, kissing her Snow White and the Huntsman co-star Kristen Stewart were plastered all over the Internet that July, Rupert told his model wife that he’d been cheating on her with the actress. Kristen, 23, had been in a long relationship with her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson at the time. Both parties issued apologies for their actions.
In the new issue of Vanity Fair, Liberty, 35, opens up about the situation for the very first time.

“It was horrible,” she tells contributing editor Evgenia Peretz. “It was really the worst, really the worst.
“I have no words to describe what we went through,” she adds. “But I think, for me, something always has to completely die for there to be a rebirth. And, for me, I feel like I’m going through a rebirth.”A family friend offered Liberty and her two children her home to escape LA and avoid the paparazzi. She accepted.
“I was able to be there completely secluded,” recalls Liberty. “I just visualized [being] this sort of Masai Warrior. I was just going to stand very still and very strong, and just let it all roll past me. I tried to keep as far away from it as I could and to understand that this is my family and it’s the most precious thing to me.”
Liberty, who filed for divorce earlier this year, admits she knew all was not well with her marriage before Rupert’s affair came to light.
“I knew that I wasn’t feeling 100 percent right. I found myself on a roller coaster, like, I’m going to keep things moving, keep things going. I’m going to keep up this amazing [façade], everyone looking at me and Rupert, thinking, Oh, wow, you guys have it all….,” she says. “Really, I had times when I felt very lonely, very disconnected from Rupert. We’d lost our real connection.”

Though it was a hard time for the brunette beauty, she forgives Rupert, 42.
“We were together for 16 years, and that in itself is really beautiful,” she shares. “And we’ve created two exceptional lives together.”
Liberty has since moved on with co-founder of Interscope Records, Jimmy Iovine.
