Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough took home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy on last night’s finale of Dancing With the Stars – but did you know she almost backed out of the competition?
“I remember going home after they announced the contestants on Good Morning America earlier this year,” the season 16 winner tells Life & Style. “I went home, was laying in bed, looked at my husband [Kyle Jacobs] and said, ‘Baby, what have I got myself into? It’s too late to back out now, isn’t it?’ But they already announced us being on the show. He said ‘Yes, it’s too late, so just enjoy it.”

Week after week, Kellie and Derek wowed the judges and audience with their amazing performances. And all the hard work paid off after host Tom Bergeron revealed they beat out Zendaya and Val Chmerkovskiy. The other two final couples, Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas and Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff, were eliminated earlier in the show.
“I'm overwhelmed with joy and kind of speechless for the first time – usually, I can't be quiet,” she says. “Usually I'm spitting out words left and right, but right now I don't know what to say.”
“I was so proud of her and it was just incredible,” her partner Derek tells Life & Style. “Not only is she an amazing dancer for what she has done and accomplished, but she’s an amazing soul and person. I’m really happy for her.”

So will she continue to dance? You betcha.
