He’s not hiding anymore! Aaron Carter bravely took to social media on Saturday, Aug. 5 to bravely open up about his sexuality and come out as bisexual. The 29-year-old felt that he comfortable enough to present his authentic self to the world, and he wrote an emotional message to his fans explaining why he needed to come out.
“There’s something I’d like to say that I feel is important for myself and my identity that has been weighing on my chest for nearly half of my life,” the “I Want Candy” singer wrote in a note that he shared on Instagram.
“This doesn’t bring me shame, just a weight and a burden I have held on to for a long time that I would like lifted off of me," he continued. "I grew up in this entertainment industry at a very young age and when I was around 13 years old I started to find boys and girls attractive."
He went on to explain that he never gave too much thought to it in his teen years, and he even had a few relationships with girls. But when he was 17, he said that he had his first experience with a male who was somebody he worked with and had also grown up with.
Aaron said that he even though he kept his sexuality a secret for most of his life, he always had his music to turn to as a safe haven. "But the ultimate goal for me is to be satisfied I never want to be a figure of disappointment," he wrote, which is why he felt the need to come out.
While Aaron has never had a public relationship with a man, he had a handful of relationships with high-profile female celebrities. He previously dated Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and Brooke Hogan.
