For the 17th season of Dancing With the Stars, pro dancer Cheryl Burke will be sharing the inside scoop with Life & Style readers! In this week’s edition, Cheryl reveals how partner Jack Osbourne has gone from a non-dancer to a now seasoned pro on the dance floor — and how they’re bumping up rehearsal time to prep for the finale!
Jack came into this competition without any dancing experience and now he has tons. I think that's what this competition is all about — improving every week and going through a journey.
The judges are very impressed with his growth. Now that we’re getting down to the wire and coming closer to the finale, we’re bumping rehearsals up an hour. We had restrictions in the past to only do five, so now we're going to do about six hours a day.
The last time I made it this far in the competition was with Emmitt Smith for All Stars last year. If I told Jack that he’d make it through week nine, he probably would've said, "No way." I honestly had no expectations. I didn't think we’d make it this far, either!
What people might not know about this show is that the whole dance is learned on Tuesday. Tuesdays are all about learning the steps, so the goal is to learn your choreography that day — and to be able to leave the studio knowing the whole routine. Until the next live show, it’s just practice, practice, practice!
We have two dances next week: We've got a Samba trio and then we have the Viennese Waltz. For most people, learning two dances in one week might be a challenge, but I have total faith in Jack. We’ve learned so many dances already that I know he'll be able to handle it.
I know that Jack’s mom, Sharon, would love to see him in the finale. I would, too! But his family is so proud of him no matter the results. We're thankful to everyone that's supported us along the way!
Until next time,
