Johnny Depp is always busy making films, but that isn't stopping him from going back to his roots! Life & Style can exclusively reveal the role the Pirates of the Caribbean star plays in the movie version of 21 Jump Street, the '80s TV cop drama that made him famous. "Johnny makes a cameo as a teacher and he bumps into his 'old' character in the halls of the high school," an insider reveals to Life & Style.
Johnny, who starred as Officer Tom Hanson from 1987 to 1990 in the hit series, filmed his cameo in May. "It's done," he said. "I went in and did my bit and worked with [stars] Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. It was fun," Johnny added.
And while the show was TV friendly (the Fox program focused on youthful-looking police officers posing as students in high schools, colleges and other teenage venues to investigate crimes), Jonah Hill, who also co-wrote the film, insists the movie will be an "R-rated, insane, Bad Boys-meets-John Hughes type movie."
"We're not even spoofing the [original]," Jonah said. "It's not strictly comedic, either. We're doing a full-on action movie, blowing s--t up."
The film is set for a 2012 release.
