Ryan Lochte and three other Olympic swimmers were robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning in Rio, the United States Olympic Committee has confirmed.
Six-time gold medalist Ryan, 32, was in a taxi with fellow Olympic swimmers Gunnar Bentz, Jimmy Feigen, and Jack Conger when the group was pulled over by men posing as police.

In an official statement from the USOC, a representative said, "Their taxi was stopped by individuals posing as armed police officers who demanded the athletes’ money and other personal belongings. All four athletes are safe and cooperating with authorities."
Lochte's account of the traumatic event was relayed to the Today Show.
"We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over," the former reality star recounted. "They pulled out their guns. They told the other swimmers to get down on the ground — they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like, "we didn't do anything wrong, so I'm not getting down on the ground.'"

"And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, 'Get down,' and I put my hands up, I was like 'whatever.' He took our money, he took my wallet — he left my cell phone, he left my credentials," Lochte continued.

Unbelievably, this is not the first incident during the 2016 Olympics (though it is one of the more highly-publicized ones, as it involves a high-profile Olympian). The chief of security was held at knife-point by a mugger the night of the Opening Ceremony and two Australian coaches were also robbed.
Lochte's mom, Ileana also made a statement, saying, "I think they're all shaken up. There were a few of them. No, they were just, they just took their wallets and basically that was it."
Glad to hear that everyone is OK!
