At just 21-years-old, Selena Gomez has been through a lot.
And in a new interview, her grandfather, **Ricardo Gomez Sr., confirms the brunette beauty has been secretly battling Lupus, which he says she was diagnosed with “a couple of years ago.”
“She’s in treatment. She’s getting along pretty good,” he confirms, adding her symptoms are currently under control.
Lupus is a chronic disease that attacks one’s immune system. It causes swelling, joint pain, and sometimes rashes.

Ricardo Sr. explains the pressures from Hollywood — coupled with her on-and-off relationship with Justin Bieber — haven’t exactly helped the situation.
“She was working a lot. She was exhausted. She hardly takes some time out. There was some pressure because it’s a lot of work…she was worried a lot about Justin,” he says.
The former Disney star landed in an Arizona rehab facility for two weeks earlier this year. At the time, a rep said her stay was voluntary and had nothing to do with drugs or alcohol.
Her grandfather adds, “The doctor was telling her she needs to take some time out. It’s just too much pressure what she’s going through. It’s just too much! She doesn’t have a single day’s break… It’s getting to the point with all this pressure … that it’s too much.”

But Ricardo Sr. worries Selena won’t properly get the rest she needs.
“What worries [us] more is that she doesn’t know how to say no,” he tells RadarOnline. “She won’t take time for herself to relax, to eat well.”
