Emma Watson is one of Hollywood’s most talented young ladies — yet she almost considered giving up acting.
Though she’s incredibly grateful for playing Hermione Granger in all eight of the Harry Potter flicks, the star says pressure from the franchise caused her to second-guess her career path.
“'I basically took two years out and stepped as far away from it as I could — I mean the HP films were still coming out but I took time to really try and figure out who I was and what I wanted to do,” she told Total Film magazine. “I even considered not being an actress.''
Luckily, Emma stuck to acting and it’s proven rather successful for the starlet. Next up for the 23-year-old is her starring role in Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, which hits theaters June 21. In the movie, Emma plays Nicki, a California teen who steals from celebrities.
It’s based on true events that took place from October 2008 to August 2009. Nicki, along with other teen burglars, broke into the homes of many stars, including Megan Fox and Orlando Bloom, and stole from them.
"I realized very quickly that my biggest challenge was trying to get the audience to identify with her, even if it’s just for a second,” she says of the part. “She’s a surreal, delusional, eccentric character who is at times very unsympathetic.”
In fact, Emma says her role is very relatable — “I think anyone can relate to those teenage years when you’re feeling pressured by what your friends are doing, feeling very image conscious, wanting to fit in.”
Are you happy Emma decided to stick with acting?
