Singer Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins is no stranger to overcoming adversity. At the age of 28, the member of the girl group TLC was diagnosed with sickle-cell anemia, a life threatening blood disorder, and two years ago she underwent brain surgery after doctors discovered a noncancerous tumor. Then came another blow: a bout of the potentially life-threatening H1N1 virus, known as swine flu. On Nov. 6, T-Boz, 39, spoke to Life & Style exclusively about her latest health scare:

L&S: How did you find out you had swine flu?

T-Boz: My daughter and I had sore throats that lasted about three days, so we went to see an ear, nose and throat specialist. After examining us, he told me my daughter had the flu -- and I had swine flu.

L&S: How did you react?

T-Boz: I was like, "This is unbelievable." I made arrangements right away for my daughter to stay with my mom.

L&S: What did your doctor prescribe for you?

T-Boz: He gave me antibiotics and antiviral medications like Tamiflu and Levaquin, as well as a low dose of steroids. I had to stay in the house and away from everyone.

L&S: Were you worried?

T-Boz: I never felt like I was going to die, but I was really concerned that I couldn't breathe. The doctors checked my vitals and my oxygen and told me my heartbeat was strong. Then they gave me some fluids and told me the flu was just running its course.
